KEY MENTAL HEALTH FACTS

  • Even before COVID-19, the prevalence of mental illness among adults was increasing. In 2017-2018, 19% of adults experienced a mental illness, an increase of 1.5 million people over last year’s dataset (MHA Website, US)

  • ​

  • From January to September 2020, 315,220 people took the anxiety screen, a 93 percent increase over the 2019 total number of anxiety screens. 534,784 people took the depression screen, a 62 percent increase over the 2019 total number of depression screens (MHA Website, US)

  • ​

  • The number of people screening with moderate to severe symptoms of depression and anxiety has continued to increase throughout 2020 and remains higher than rates prior to COVID-19. In September 2020, the rate of moderate to severe anxiety peaked, with over 8 in 10 people who took an anxiety screen scoring with moderate to severe symptoms. Over 8 in 10 people who took a depression screen have scored with symptoms of moderate to severe depression consistently since the beginning of the pandemic in March 2020 (MHA Website, US)

  • 1 in 4 people experience mental health issues each year

  • 23.6% of adults with a mental illness reported an unmet need for treatment in 2017-2018. This number has not declined since 2011 (MHA Website, US)

  • At any given time, 1 in 6 working-age adults have symptoms associated with mental ill health

There are many effective actions that organisations can take to promote mental health in the workplace; such actions also benefit productivity (World Health Organisation)

For every £1/$1 put into scaled up treatment for common mental disorders, there is a return of £4/$4 in improved health and productivity in the workplace (World Health Organisation)

She will take you on a journey to understand how our minds work, help overcome feelings of fear, stress, anxiety, feeling overwhelmed and overall to lead a more enriched, meaningful and peaceful life.

  • Understand anxiety, what it is, how it can change and how common it is

  • Establish the difference between feeling stressed, nervous, excited and anxious

  • Identify and understand the source of your stress and anxiety

  • Further educate about anxiety and its causes; sources, triggers and cognitive patterns

  • Provide tools to manage anxiety; identify the signs, symptoms, and treatments

  • Reduce stigma and identify myths and facts surrounding anxiety

  • Improve your confidence and courage

  • Overcome obstacles that hold you back such as phobias and bad habits

  • Improve your mental and physical wellbeing

This workshop is a great opportunity to bring members of staff together whether in person or via a virtual workshop to help them personally and professionally by providing them with additional support for their mental wellbeing and mental health through what has been an extremely challenging past year.
